Synopsis

Shakti Samanta loved making crime thrillers before moving towards romantic social dramas for more than a decade. He returned to the crime thriller genre with ‘The Great Gambler’ in 1979 which was shot in exotic locations of Egypt, Italy, Portugal and the Netherlands. Shakti Samanta also had a very good ear for music and most of his films had superhit music. ‘The Great Gambler’ is remembered even after 4 decades not because of Amitabh Bachchan’s antics but because of R D Burman’s scintillating music and Anand Bakshi’s lyrics. But is its music only restricted to ‘Do Lafzon Ki Hai’and ‘Pehle Pehle Pyar Ki Mulaqaten’ ? And what about Pancham’s extra elements in the film ?
