Synopsis

‘Anmol Ratna’ series cannot be complete without a Dev Anand film as his films were a sure shot guarantee of fabulous music and certainly, some priceless ‘Ratnas’. Our film and music expert Rajiv Vijayakar has selected ‘Hum Dono’ amongst the many musical films produced by Dev Anand’s ‘Navketan Films’, chiefly because of the odds that went in its favour. First and foremost it’s a film based on human relations against the backdrop of war. Secondly, it didn’t have music by the Navketan's regular S.D. Burman but his assistant Jaidev who gave a fantastic score. Each song, whether the romantic ‘Abhi Na Jaao Chhodkar’, or the philosophical ‘Main Zindagi Ka Saath’; the evergreen bhajan ‘Allah Tero Naam’ or the ghazal ‘Kabhi Khud Pe’ is in a class of its own. Equally powerful are the lyrics written by Sahir Ludhianvi and the vocals lent by Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd. Rafi and Asha Bhosle. So which one out of its 6 songs qualifies for the crown, it’s ‘Anmol Ratna’. A tough selection indeed but yet the ‘Ratna’ is unearthed. Watch the full episode to find out.
